The Proposal
Justin and Alyssa took a trip to Italy to celebrate their 4 year anniversary. They ate lots of pasta and drank a lot of red wine, and even learned how to make mozzarella and gnocchi.
Yes, Alyssa knew the proposal was happening. She feels the most comfortable when she knows what to expect. She would have been really bummed if she looked bad when she got engaged. Justin, being a good rule follower, made sure she knew what to expect. They got engaged in Lake Como, Italy in a village called Varenna. They had a beautiful time in Lake Como exploring the many villages on the lake. They made some great friends; Maria, who owned the AirBnB and was incredibly generous with her time, vehicle, and homemade jam; Marina, the restaurant owner they ate at twice and specifically made Alyssa the dish she loved from the first dinner that wasn’t technically on the menu the second dinner; Andre, the taxi driver Alyssa almost killed (great story) that was so helpful getting them around the lake.
Just about everything went wrong that could have.
Alyssa’s curling iron literally CAUGHT ON FIRE in the middle of curling her hair, so half of it looked the way it was supposed to. Justin realized the night before that the route they were supposed to take wouldn’t be an option. When they got to the back up bus stop, the bus didn’t stop for them.
Alyssa ended up doing her makeup at the bus stop and in a bar bathroom. On the way to the location, Justin got them lost. At the proposal itself, Justin missed his marker so the proposal happened twice. But even with all of the chaos, it was a really special moment.
